The word “fintech” is simply a combination of the words “financial” and “technology”. It describes the use of technology to deliver financial services and products to consumers. This could be in the areas of banking, insurance, investing – anything that relates to finance.

Decentralized finance (DeFi) is an emerging financial technology based on secure distributed ledgers similar to those used by cryptocurrencies. DeFi eliminates the fees that banks and other financial companies charge for using their services. Individuals hold money in a secure digital wallet, can transfer funds in minutes, and anyone with an internet connection can use DeFi.

Blockchain is a system of recording information in a way that makes it difficult or impossible to change, hack, or cheat the system… and it’s the future, especially where financial transactions are concerned.

Blockchain and the various cryptocurrencies are only one innovation that promises to revolutionize the financial sector. Artificial intelligence is another technology that will hugely disrupt global financial markets.

As always, I included this module so I could get ahead of the game and complement my overall futures thinking ability.
