“Our diet is the number-one cause of premature death and the number-one cause of disability. Surely, diet must also be the number-one thing taught in medical schools, right?
Sadly, it’s not.“
Michael Greger, MD, How Not to Die: Discover the Foods Scientifically Proven to Prevent and Reverse Disease, 2015:1
Biology studies the physical structure, chemical processes, molecular interactions, physiological mechanisms, development and evolution of living organisms.
Biomechanics is the science of how muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments work together to produce movement in a living body.
Biohacking, or do-it-yourself biology, is concerned with making small, incremental diet or lifestyle changes to achieve improvements in your health and wellbeing, often with the aim of achieving optimum health and performance.
This module came about when I started to more closely study how the human body develops and what makes it function; with the aim of using this information to improve my own health, wellbeing and exercise performance.
Personal training is focused on designing a program of fitness and nutrition instruction that enables a person to achieve their ideal physique with improved levels of physical performance. When you put biohacking and personal training together you end up with a combination that can empower you to move beyond traditional outcomes.
Getting into shape was something I invested more and more time into while building my MTA Portfolio. I did this as a part of improving my overall health, but also because I liked the challenge and seeing what my body was capable of doing.
I also became increasingly interested in the concept of biohacking and the more I educated myself about do-it-yourself biology, the more I applied it to my physical and psychological development.
